Blog Assignment #14

Technology

Using Technology in the Classroom

I think all ten tips would be very beneficial to using and teaching with technology in the classroom. I agree with what he has to say. I think videos would be great for a visual aid. I pick up on things better when it is shown than reading it. That's just how it works for me. Using music helps because everyone loves music. Instantly people are wanting to view what has been put together and in return people learn the information because of the song. This happens to me also, I put a song with the info and I remember it. Using things like Skype help to communicate with other people like teachers and people from other places helps to learn what other people are doing in other schools or countries. It also males it fun to learn. Creating your own exercises will be fun and students will pick up on the information easier. The teachers know the kids best, other then parents, so they can generate something to help them learn and succeed.I think the whiteboard would be greatly helpful because students can interact with it. If something is wrong they can go back and see what they did that was not right. It can also be fun and motivational to students and the teachers. I find whiteboards to be very interesting and fun to play with. Podcasts can be great to use because instead of reading it you are hearing it. I find that more better than reading it. I still like to read things, but I pick up on the information better if I listen to it. I can also rewind it if I need to to hear it again. You can also put the voice or sound with a movie and make it even better. Blogs can be great as you can put all the information you want people to know on there and people from all over the world can communicate with you and learn from them and experience different things. It is a great tool. Social networks can be a great tool also. You can communicate in ways other things cannot. Internet tools, there are so many. Use them to your advantage. They can help out a lot. Lastly, students gadgets like cell phones and iPods can be used to help students out also. They can keep information stored. Use different apps to help the students out with things.
All of these tips I agree can help you use technology in the classroom. They can benefit the student in many ways. Technology can be a great asset in the classroom. Students will learn. Teachers will teach better and everyone will be motivated for the better, students and teachers and many more. Technology is a wonderful thing. You just have to be able to use it correctly for the process to work right.

Final Report PLN

My PLN has expanded and grown. Whenever I run into something I find that will be useful later or now I save it and mark it down. I have found stuff I have never heard of before, but found it to be very helpful. Even some stuff Dr.Strange introduced I out in my PLN. I think the PLN is a good idea to keep all your educational business together in one area that you can find easily and be able to get stuff done. I will keep working on my PLN even after I am done with this class. It has been a great asset to me. Everyone should have PLN's.

Blog

The first comment I posted was on the children using paint on paper, folding it in half and having a piece of art in front of them. I posted the following comment: I love to watch children be creative. Just grabbing a pencil, pen, paint, whatever to create art of some sort and throwing on paper or anything. You get to see what they are thinking in their heads and in the end you get something truly amazing. To children their are no boundaries for art, they just go with the flow. It is really great. This was a great post. I love the pictures.
The second comment I posted was on children drawing their senses. I found this to be quite a great idea. I left the following comment: Wow, I really like the idea of of drawing out the senses. I never really sat down and did this. Drew what I heard, smelled, tasted, felt, and seen. I think it would create very creative drawings because not all children taste, hear, smell, feel or see. I like this idea. Thanks for the post. I love the pictures also.
Here is the Blog if you would like to read them for yourself. He has many others I found interesting also.

Did

Did you know about WolframAlpha?
No, I sure didn't. I have never heard of it before at all.
Did you know about Google Squared?
No, I did no know about this either and I love google and use it for just about everything.
China has 1.35 billion people, India currently has 1.21 billion people and the United States has only 309 million people. China's population growth per year is 0.63%, India's population growth is 1.44% and the U.S. is 0.969%. It is strange to me how the U.S has a much higher population growth than China, yet china has way more people. Wonder why that is? The U.S will soon be out ranked by India and China.
Do you think WolframAlpha will be useful for you? for your students? Why or why not?
I think it will be very useful. It gives you some really useful information. I can use the information to do anything with. Like make a timeline. I think it will be useful for the students, yes. If I were to ask a certain question, or make the do a project that deals with populations or make a timeline about someone, the students will be able to find the information they need very easily. I think it will be a great help.

Final Project Progress Report

To be honest, I haven't thought about it yet. I have been so busy with other things that it has not even went through my mind. I just started thinking about it today. Not for sure what to do yet. Not sure what group o be with to do it. But I will get something. I may make a movie or something,Or a TV show like my short movie I did. I find that very fun to do, especially when ylou put actual people in it. SO this is wha I may go with to do my Final Project on and it will most likely be an educational video.

Blog Assignment #12

Write what your life would be like if you lived in a different time period. For example, Say I was living in the 50's. How was technology different then than it is now? How important or not important was technology then? How much has it changed since? Isn't it crazy how much we depend on technology now? What do you think?
I am living in the 1950's. Many inventions in technology were created in this era. There was the cable TV that attracted much of the family to the television during newscast reports. The attraction of the family to the television made stronger family ties and better communication between the families.
Next there was the radio. One of the first transistor radios was invented in 1954, and was called the TR-I. The radio was small enough to fit in ones pocket to carry around. This let people keep in touch with what was going on around the world without having to stay home and see it.
There was also computers that came around. Computers took up about a whole entire room, and took hours to figure out the problems inputted into the system. One of the first computers was the UNIVAC, but came in handy for businesses and such.
In the 50's I think technology was very important to people considering it had just came out and was very new to them. It was much easier on them and saved time for certain things and such.
Technology has changed quite a bit since then. It has gotten, better, faster, stronger, and much easier to figure out.
I think it is crazy how much everyone depends on technology now. It is very useful, yes, but what if it suddenly all disappeared? What would be do then? Panic and become distraught. People were getting by with hardly any technology back in the day, it made life easier yes, but they still survived without it. Now days people depend on it 100%. What if we lost it all? What then? Just a thought.
This would be my example and instructions on a blog post. It makes you think and teaches you something about the past, our history.

Blog Assignment #11

Children and Technology

First off, I loved the video. All the kids were so interested in the technology and had knowledge on how to use it and use it well. I love that. I one day want to do that with my kids. use blogs, Wikis, videos, Skype, and anything else that will help my kids learn many, many things.I like that when using technology, the internet and such, Mrs. Cassidy helps to keep the students safe from the bad stuff. Do not post a picture of yourself and do not use your last name. Things which I will remember to tell my students when I begin to use technology to help kids learn and be productive in life. I like that the kids were making their own videos to help them learn the alphabet and even using blogs to figure information out. I agree with Mrs. Cassidy when she says teachers should be technologically literate. They should because when using technology to educate others, especially young children, you do not need to just know the basics. You need to know all that you can about it so as to help your students in the classroom and so that they can go home and do it on their own also. I admit that I am not a very technologically literate person, but I want to learn how to be and learn more about it. That way when I educate my students I will be doing it the right way and if they have questions I can answer them. Though, if I do not, I will go find out the answer to tell them. No question will go unanswered and any question can be asked. It is great that kids start out young identifying technology and the ways to use it, so that later in life they have a vast knowledge on it and can use it very well to succeed in life situation that call for it. The video can be seen here.

Blog Assignment #10

Do

Do you teach or do you educate??

I became a education major because 1) I love kids and 2) I want to educate those kids to my fullest potential. I want them to strive to do their best and never give up no matter what life throws in their way. I want my kids to pick up the knowledge and carry it with them rather than memorize and throw it away or forget it. That is what has happened to me. I was taught things and then would forget it and when I needed it for later use it was not their and I had to get it taught to me again. I want my kids to learn and use the information I educate to them always and everyday. I do not want to teach and the kids learn nothing, I would feel like I did not accomplish my duty as being a teacher. I want to us everything I can to have them learn many things and remember them for later use in their life. Here is the link to the video if you care to watch.
Do You Teach or Do You Educate?

Tom Johnson's Don't Let Them Take the Pencils Home!

I love this post. It should be viewed by all. I like that instead of ranting about the problem like some people do and never coming up with a solution, that the entire time he tries to tell how to fix this and gives a solution. I think that is a better way to solve something, especially when it involves children and their education. I say let them bring their pencils home, true they may doodle or play silly games like hang man, but look deeper than it is just the kids being distracted from real work or playing a silly game. When a child doodles, there is a line forming, a line is a part of art, a line makes images to see and think about, a line forms words that are to be studied. For children doodling is something special and beautiful, they learn how to use that line to form things. To some adults, it is ridiculous nonsense and the child isn't learning at all. When a child plays a silly game like hang man they are learning words, words turn into sentences, that turn into paragraphs, that turn into essays, that turn into books and so on. Bring home your pencil kids, and keep doing it. Even if you can do this on technology now days, a pencil will always be needed and children will keep learning. All because of a single line. Here is the link, if you care to take a peek at it.

C4T Summary #3

For this comment for teacher I was assigned to Ms. Edna. For my first post I read about becoming a inquiry. You need to make connections, explore, ask questions even if those questions lead to other questions it is all apart of the bigger picture. Getting to what you really want to know, while in the process of learning more than you asked or thought of. My first comment was: Hello Edna,
I am a student at the University of South Alabama. I am in the EDM 310 class and was assigned to comment on your blog. I am glad I was, I find your blog, in fact, inquiring.
Your blog sparks my curiosity, it makes me want to go out and keep searching for the things I have thought of and questioned. I like your blog, it inspires me to think and keep thinking. Keep up the great writing! It is wonderful.

For my second post I read about letting go. Let your thinking come out and push forward. Ms. Edna is in a reading group that builds on thinking. Using it to the greatest extent. Students should push their thinking abilities. I want learning to happen when students are given that chance to think and analyze on their own and naturally. I want to let go also. My second comment was: This makes me want to join a reading group or make one myself among friends. In our spare time we could sit down and let go while reading and discussing books. I want to push my thinking and really get involved and this seems like a great idea. I want my students to do the same when I begin teaching. I love great ideas and this is surely one of them. Letting go starts now.

What I Learned

Posts by Mr.McClung

Mr. McClung had some very interesting blog posts. I am glad he has written about his years as being a teacher. What he learned and has written down I can see and take that knowledge in and use it for me also. One day I will be just beginning my teaching and I will want some tips, and Mr. McClung will be the person I think of and go to for advice. His blog posts are great. I want to be a great teacher and it never hurt to listen to another teacher about their first year and see what happened and get some clues. That is what we teachers need to do, help each other out so that we can teach our students to learn greatly and be successful in life. He has been teaching for the past three years and has picked up on some great information. Here is his blogs for you to look at and read also.

Blog Assignment #8

Dream

This is how we Dream by Dr. Richard Miller
Dr. Miller did an excellent job on these videos. It was truly amazing. It is crazy how much we have evolved with technology. We work with technology more and more each day. I agree that we need a curriculum developed to show how we would teach technology in the classroom. Technology can be hard to understand and develop. It can be hard to figure out and hard to do by yourself. If I was told to produce a movie like the ones in Dr. Miller’s video, I wouldn’t know where to start. I would need some sort of help to understand exactly how to do what to make my text move or my pictures fly. Thus we need a curriculum to explain, help, better involve students and teach them to understand the technology that is all around them and can be used to better themselves as students.
I do not think teachers have begun to see the changes around the world either. I think he is right. All teachers are still back in the day so to speak. Some have not realized that technology is changing for the better and will need to be incorporated into classes and teach students how to manage it. We are not using pencil and paper much anymore. It is typing and pasting and creating. Technology has become a big part of a teacher’s classroom and I hope they will soon realize this. Some already do and are beginning to work with students to have them better understand how it works. There is so much that can be done with technology that it is unbelievable. Just look at the video by Dr. Miller again.
We can do anything we set our minds to. I believe it. Do you? I believe we can master this technology in classrooms. We can have our students making movies, images and pages the way Dr. Miller did. It was amazing how he was putting some of that together. If he can learn I know we as students can too, and we can teach it also. We just have to put our minds there. We can do it. We can learn and teach the ways of technology. The only restrictions we have are the ones we put on ourselves. If you say,” I can’t make a video like that, I will never be able to”, then with a attitude like that you never will. Stay positive about the situation. Instead say, “I may not be able to now, but if I just learn and I am taught how technology works, then I can.” You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Just focus and do it.

Blog Post #12 by Carly Pugh
Wow, really wow. That is a very good idea. I am going to go do that as soon as I get done with this blog post. I loved the videos. I really liked the When I Grow Up one. That made me smile. I also liked the Diversity one. I couldn't watch the Think Differnt 10 Years Later one though because it contained content from EMI, who has blocked it in our country on copyright grounds, but I got to watch the rest. They were really good. I liked her playlist. I think she came very close to writing with multimedia. All those video, even though they were images and music and very little word, still spoke so much. They spoke volumes. It was inspiring. It was beautiful. It was magnificent. I believe she will be a wonderful teacher. She took something small and made it speak out loud. She inspires me to become a great teacher. Thank you Carly. You have done a fantastic job.

The Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies
Both videos were really great. I wish there was a actual book. I would definitely buy it and keep it forever because even though it would be used mainly for the class, it could still be very helpful when I get on my own. I could forget something and BAM! the book is there for me to use.
I think a type of video would be something like a talk show or something. You have the person that is in the EDM 310 class and then you have EDM310 itself and the talk show host. You talk about why EDM310 is so frustrating and what to do about it and such. I guess it would be like a love story. Jerry Springer? Maury? Kinda like that. I thought that would be cool. Another thought I had was making EDM310 into a horror movie. Have EDM310 running around killing people in the class with crazyness and such.

Learn to Change, Change to Learn
I can't believe education is ranked so low, especially below coal mining. I consider education to be very high in my book. I believe technology is becoming a BIG part of the classroom. Sutudents are becoming connected with so many tools in the world. They use them outside of the classroom more than inside the classroom becasue some of these technologies are not allowed in the classroom. The cell phone and laptop which has so much information that students could be informed about. Sudents don't need to just memorize information, they need to find information, validate it, leverage it, and communicae with it. It is the Dawn of learning. Let's teach with technology.

Blog Assignment #7

Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch IS a great man. He may have passed but he is still a wonderful man. What I have learned from him will go with me til I die. He was funny, he taught you things, he was inspirational, and he was fun. When I found out he had cancer I was shocked and kinda sad, but I looked at him and saw he was happy and therefore, I was happy for him. He is definitely in better shape than me. Did you see him do those pushups? Wow, I can't even do one. Even though Randy was the elephant in the room with tumors in his liver, he was still a happy great guy. What he taught was so meaningful.

When he starts out he tells us he has experienced a deathbed conversion, he bought a Mac. He then begins to talk about his childhood dreams. He talks about how he could never find a photo of him not smiling and that was very gratifying to him. He then tells what his childhood dreams were. One of his dreams was to be in zero gravity. He was able to do this by his college got together a team and won this competition and got to go in NASA's "Vomit Comet"but this is where he hit his first brick wall. Randy says that brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things. He found out that faculty members under no circumstances were able to fly with the team. Randy was heartbroken. He soon found out that the team was able to bring a local media journalist form their hometown. Randy sent in some paper work and said they were doing virtual reality and the rest of the media could film it, he says bring something to the table because that will make you more welcomed, and he got a media pass and inevitably got to experience zero gravity.

His next dream was wanting to be A NFL football player. He talks how it is all about fundamentals. You have to get the fundamentals down or all the other stuff will not work. He talks about how his coach yelled at him and rode him throughout practice and he learned that this was a good thing because when your screwing up and nobody is saying anything to you anymore that means they gave up. He never made it to NFL but football got him where he is today. He says that, "Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted."

His next dream was being a author in the World Book Encyclopedia. When he was somewhat a authority on virtual reality he got to write a article in the Encyclopedia on virtual reality.
Another was he wanted to meet Captain Kirk. He got to meet him when there was a book being written on Start Trek and they came around to different places in the country and they came to study the virtual reality setup and he got to meet him. They setup a star trek reality for him and Mr. Kirk was a good sport about it. Randy loved that he got to meet his childhood idol by Mr. Kirk coming to him to look at his cool stuff.
Another was winning stuffed animals in which he actual won quite a few, he even brings them on stage so you will believe him.
His last dream was to be an imagineer. It was quite hard for him to achieve this. When he went to Disney World he was like I want to build this so he went to college and graduated and wrote letters to try and get in but they said no. Brick wall. They are there for people who really want it. He eventually made it to be one but realized he didnt really want to do this.

I think Randy Pausch is quite a amazing person. He is very motivational and inspirational. He keeps you interested in his lectures and he tells you valuable information. I will always remember him even though all I did was watch a video of him on YouTube. Words are very powerful and can change the future of many people. I hope everyone achieves their dreams and may Randy Pausch rest in Peace. He will never be forgotten.

PLN #1

PLN

My Personal Learning Network at first did not contain that many tools or people, but the more I googled and the more I learned it began to fill. I use symbaloo to put it all together. Right now I have tools that I use frequently and people that I talk to frequently. I have some things I thought were just very interesting and could be useful. I think the PLN is very useful with a little help from others to get it started. It can be used in many ways to help a student with homework, research, or just learning new and interesting resources to use on later projects in life. I find it useful and fun to put together. Everyone shoudl have a PLN.

C4T Summary #2

Eric Langhorst

So for my second C4T I was assigned Mr. Eric Langhorst. He was really quite interesting. His blogs were great. I love how I got to see his experiences in different things. I posted two comments. The first was on some food he had while traveling in Japan. My comment was: Hello Mr. Langhorst, I am LeeAnn Bone and I am a student at the University of South Alabama. I am in a class called EDM 310. I love this post. The food looks so good. The Japanese dish is called Okonomiyaki. What a interesting name. I love that you got involved with making it. It is something I may have to try out one day. Thank you for sharing.

The second comment was on his experience at a Japanese baseball game. My comment was: Hello Eric, My name is LeeAnn Bone. I am a student at the University of South Alabama. You have such interesting posts. They are so amazing. The things you get to do and enjoy. You seem like you have such a great time. I wouldn't mind going to a Japanese sports event. That would be quite neat. I was wondering if you knew if the balloons were called something specific? And why do they release the balloons? That is very interesting. Thank you for sharing this great experience with us.

Blog Assignment #6

Networked Student

The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler
The video was entertaining and informative. I love the characters and how the video was operated, how the characters came to life. When I first started watching the video I was not sure what a networked student was. It sent questions to my brain. Then watching the video I learned that the networked student is a student who uses more than one network to learn and study. With all this technology now days you would not expect a student to ever need a teacher anymore. With all the information floating on the internet then why do we need teachers?? Well, they answered that. In order for students to find that information or even use the technology to search for it you must have someone who already knows how, who can teach to the students their know hows. The teacher is the one who teaches the student how to build the network and take advantage of learning opportunities. The teacher offers guidance when the student gets stuck, how to communicate properly and ask respectfully for help from experts, how to differentiate between good information and propaganda, how to event a resource, how to turn a web search into a scavenger hunt and get excited when the students finds the content. The teacher helps the student organize all that information in hopes the student will maintain his/her learning network and use it to navigate his/her future and creatively solve problems.
A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment (or PLN)
I believe this 7th grader is using technology to its advanatge. She has been taught to use and navigate through the internet and put her PLN together well. She has everything she needs a click away. It was really great to see someone else's PLN and see how they are using it to better themselves and learn. I think it was a well presented PLN. Keep up the great work.

C4K Summary #1

Kids

Commenting on kid’s blogs was very fun. It is very interesting to see a 2nd or 3rd grader writing a blog and using it very well. I commented on four children and those children were Dominic, Elsie, Cade, and Danielle, Sione, and Jephte. They all had great blog posts.

DOMINIC
The first comment was on a child named Dominic. Dominic is a 2nd grader and he read Smarter than Squirrels by Lucy Nolan. In his story Down Girl and Sit steal a bag of donuts and run off with them and their owner then runs after Down Girl and Sit. Dominic then says that it reminded him of when his dog stole some donuts. I posted the following comment: Hello Dominic,
My name is LeeAnn Bone and I am in a class called EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama. In my class we write about so many different things and post it on our blog, like your teacher has done for you on your class blog. While looking at many different blogs I came across someone who loved animals so much. She loved all her animals, especially her dogs. When I read your story I thought about her blog. I wonder if her dog ever stole some doughnuts from her? I love your story. Do you know why they stole the doughnuts? Think they were just hungry or wanting to play? Keep up the great work Dominic! ^_^

ELSIE, CADE, and DANIELLE
The next comment was on a group of kids named Elsie, Cade, and Danielle. The kids were put into groups of two or three and then the children were given a couple minutes to talk with each other on which story they wanted to use for their interview book report and last they were instructed on how to use the notepad app on the iPad to create their interview questions. After reviewing how to interview each other and practice they began to interview. One student would operate the camera; one child asked the interview questions, while the last child answered the questions. I then posted the following comment: Hello. I am a student in EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama. This was a great video. It made me smile. It is good that the children are getting a use out of this iPad. I am looking forward to more videos. Keep up the great work!

SIONE
The third comment was on a a girl named Sione. She posted a video about a sports highlights. The sport was rugby. The game was very neat. She really loves that sport also. I then left the following comment: I am glad you posted this Sione. It was quite interesting. I have never watched this sport before, or have ever heard of the Roosters and the Dragons. That was a great game from the look of the highlights. Both teams had some really good shots to score. Watching and reading your post makes me want to watch this type of sport. Is it called rugby or football?

JEPHTE
The last comment was on Jephte's blog post. He had posted what they had been doing in class. They made furniture from paper and colored it. I found it to be quite awesome. I then left the comment: Hey Jephte, my name is LeeAnn. I am in a EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama. These furniture design ideas are really great. I love how creative you could be with these. I probably will do one myself from the instructions you gave up above. I like your piece, the color blue is really beautiful. How has the furniture been working out?
I found all these posts to be really great. Kids are learning so much from technology and how to use it properly. I hope they keep going and learn as much as they can. For it seems that in the future technology will be used quite often.

Blog Assignment #5

Teaching Kids

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
I see what he is saying. Finally. When I was trying to read his blog my eyes kept getting out of focus and made my head hurt. I think technology can overload us and be too much on us at a point. Technology can be very useful yes, but lets not let it run our lives. I do not think kids should just depend on technology when in the classroom. There are many ways to get across what you are trying to get them to learn. Technology is one…of many. I think humans rely too much on technology. I think we should know about technology and how to use it but lets not depend strictly on it. What if all of a sudden technology did not exist?? Think everyone could go about their lives? No, probably not and to me that is a problem.
I found out that Dr. McLeod is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. He also is the Founding Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the nation’s only academic center dedicated to the technology needs of school administrators, and was a co-creator of the wildly popular video series, Did You Know? Who would have thought.

The iSchool Initiative and Zeitgeist Young Mind's Entry by Travis Allen
Wow, that device look like a really interesting useful piece of technology. It looks as if it can really save on money for books and calculators and such. I like that he is taking a step forward and trying to help out our education. I think it is a good idea. My question is though, Will it work correctly? I don't want to depend on this item and it let me down. I want to know before hand i it will work right and if it messes up when I get it can it be fixed or do I have a useless piece of technology now that I spent about 100 dollars on.
I like that he has gotten his idea out in the open and has a team of students working with him going to different school to help out in the education department. Showing everyone how useful this item will be in the future. Having his idea out in the open gives people to see this and help make it work. Give their opinions and also help out with education. I like the idea behind this, but I do not want to strictly depend on it to help with homework and calculations and such. I want a back-up plan.

Jennifer Chamber’s post and Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir
That was truly amazing. The fact that they have not met each other and this will be the first time performing together. It was really amazing. I loved it. What a way to use the internet. I would have never thought to even try anything like this at all. That actually inspires me to go out and try something like this with a group of friends. Maybe not singing but something similar with the usage of the internet and video.

Teaching in the 21st Century by Kevin Roberts
I think Robert's thinks teaching means to be engaging not entertaining. He wants teaching to be active, leaning, has long-term results, is meaningful and applicable, solves problems, and uses the creativity of the participant. He does not want it to be entertaining.
I think I have to agree with him. Teaching needs to be engaging not entertaining. Since teachers are no longer the source of knowledge we as teachers need to show children how to use the technology, how to handle to resources out there, how to use the information to help them. Since there will be so much use of technology in the future we need to teach or children how to properly use it and where and when to use it correctly. We need to teach them about technology and everything that comes with. I don't like to depend on technology, but it is good to know how to use it since it will most likely be around for a while.

Blog Assignment #4

Podcasting

Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog, Langwitches, and 100 Ways to Use Your ipod to Learn and Study Better
I listened and/or read The Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog, Langwitches, and 100 Ways to Use Your ipod to Learn and Study Better. Each provided me with valuable information. I really liked each of them too. They were well put together. I really liked how the 3rd graders made a Read-Along Audiobook. I liked the story that was put together, it was very creative. The 3rd graders really used their imaginations. It was really neat. I wouldn't mind doing something like that.
The Eagle Nest Radio was really inspiring. They did such a great job putting it together. The way they started out with one child then passing it too the next was neat. I actually learned some facts about sharks and the Romans. The 3rd graders really got into what they were doing. They had fun which made it even better. I would use this in a podcast also. Also when useing just their voices, the reader, has to visualize what they are doing and saying. The 3rd graders did a great job telling where they were and describing it. As i listened to them I made a movie in my head. This was a great way to do a podcast.
Lastly, I do not own a ipod, but I know the basics about them. I never knew their was so many ways to use a ipod effectively. I never imagined you could learn and study better with useing a ipod. I just thought it was for music. Some of the programs I found interesting was Mogopop in which you use this program to enhance iPod learning by adding notes, video and illustrations to audiobooks and study notes, Portable Notes in which you use this guide to help you install Portable Notes on your iPod, making it easy to review class notes and study guides even if you’re away from your computer, and Books on Board in which you can search for ebooks and audio books on this site, in categories ranging from Women’s Reading to Textbooks to Classics to Business. Those are just a couple that I like. There are many many more you can use and learn from. There are some in which you can use in your classroom and tutorials.
I really liked listening and/or reading this material. It was interesting to see or hear how 3rd graders used technology and they did it so well.

C4T #1 Summary

Art Teacher

I was given a Art Viewer blog page for my Comment for teachers project. The most recent post was a painting of a cola bottle with a lemon and a lime lying next to it. The painting was almost life like. It was truly a magnificent piece of art work. I left the following comment:

The Art Viewer page

This time it was sculptures. They all looked so good. Each inspired with creativity and imagination. I really loved them and might try to sculp something myself and let my creative juices flow from my head to my hands to the end of my fingers. I left the following comment:

Blog Assignment #3

"It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines
I liked what Mrs. Hines had to say. I think she is right. I believe technology is not the most important thing in our world for children to learn. Yes, it is going to be a great asset to use, but it is not the most important. I think teachers need to be great learners before trying to teach childen and they learn from the teacher.
When I go to teach my kids, I hope they can learn from me. I want to inspire them to do the same in the future. Learn rather than forget. I want to change up the way some schools are teaching their kids. Give the children information, they memorize it, and then write it on paper and forget what was taught. I want the children to learn and it is up to me wether that happens or not. Mrs. Hines Post

Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
I would have to say that what Karl says in his blog makes sense. Teachers need to be technology literate. They need to be able to understand the technology themselves before trying to teach it to others. Especially whe it comes to children. A child will take everything in you say and pass it to others, so you want to teach them correctly. Teachers need to learn the information about technology first before trying to pass it on to children.
I think teachers should be able to understand technology but not focus on it as a main priority when teaching. I think technology helps to teach but you yourself has to know the information before letting technology help out. You must learn before you can teach others. Karl Fischs Post

Gary Hayes Social Media Count
When watching the count change I realize their is a abundant amount of people in this world using technology for any amount of reasoning. The number changes so quickly and climbs higher and higher. So much technology been used in a a few seconds, a minute, and the numbers constantly go up. It makes me think that people are very dependent on technolgy. It also makes me think, "What would happen if technology suddenly no longer existed?" How would people handle it and what would they do.
To me it means that technology will be a great way to teach in the classroom if used properly and correctly. Do not depend on it, but let it help you out while teaching and get children involved in what your doing so they learn. Since their is so many people using technology round the world, it would be great for finding sources and useing them to interpret ideas ina classroom and such. I do not want to rely on technology though. It is useful yes, but there are other ways for childen to learn rather tha just by technology.

Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
Thouh this video shows students and what they are dealing with, have you wonder what about the teachers? Teachers have been in our situations before, they were once students also. A student goes to college to get a education, to learn. Not to facebook, twitter, skip class, or not do work. If that is all they do then why pay to get a education, move over and let someone who wants to get a education take your spot.
I really liked this video. It was put together really well. There was a lot of situations to think about. Why does a student get on facebook when in class? Why does a student skip? Why does a student cheat? If they are here to learn and get a education that should not be there main focus when in class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGCJ46vyR9o&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftechliterateteacher%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded

Blog Assignment #2

Did You Know? by Karl Fish and Scott McLeod
This video helps you see just how big the rest of the world is compared to the United States. It looks as if we are running behind. Our technology is changing fast and everyday and is not letting up. Technology has exploded out of water and is now used for everything in everyday life. Without it, I do not believe there would be much running in the world.
The video shocked me because I did not know just how much the United States is slacking in. China is becoming the #1 English speaking country. The United states should be #1 considering we have the majority of English speaking people. In India, 25% of its population with the highest IQ’s is more than our total population in the United States. The United States needs to better educate our young ones. We need to better adapt to technology rising and being part of our everyday lives. We need not to take it for granted. Did You know?

Mr. Winkles Wakes by Matthew Needleman
I think in this video it seems as if our education is going to always be the same. 1000 tears from now our educators will still be using the "Burp back method" which is when your kids are filled with information and then burp in back up on paper just to pass but never actually learning the information. I don't think this is working for our kids for the best. Now there is also technology involved.
We need to start intergrating technology more in schools since it is becoming more and more involved in our lives. Soon that is the only thing students will be learning from. We need to start getting our students involved with technology and have them actually learn in school, not just memorize and forget. Mr. Winkle Wakes

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
I think some of what Mr.Robinson is true. I do not think schools crush creativity, but they do tell children through the years that if you make a mistake it is the worst thing you can make. I find that not to be true. I think it is ok to make mistakes. I think it helps you and teaches you in the long run to be better at what you do. If you make a mistake, no problem, just try again.
I agree that we grow out of creaivity rather than into. Over the years my creativity has went down because of school. I make a mistake in my creativness and it made me feel I never needed to do that again ever rather than rearrange it and learn from it. I think the arts shouldn't be lower than any other subject. I think it should be equal instead. We need to get our creativity back. Sir Robinson

Cecelia Gault (Young Student in Finland) Interviews Sir Ken Robinson
I agree with Sir Robinson. I think that everyone is creative and they do have the ability to be creative. I do not think that only certain people have the creative abilities, I think that the ones who can perform on a higher level is because they make mistakes and learn from it.
You just have to get into. Make mistakes, it is ok. I would want to teach the arts as a equal to other subects. I think the arts are as just important. Cecelia Gault Interview

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
I like what this video implies. Get students involved with all technology. Help them improve their ways to learn. Know how to use technology to the fullest. Technology is advancing so quickly and will keep growing. It shows how important technology is in classrooms and we need to get our students more involved with it. Students will be able to put all effort into something they like to do and we can learn from it.

Blog Assignment #1

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Nicole LeeAnn Bone. I go by LeeAnn and yes, my last name really is Bone. Like A bone in your body. I am 19, 20 on May 24th, 1992 in which I was premature. I had a undeveloped lung, so I stayed in the hospital for about two more months. I was supposed to be born on July 4th, 1992. I was going to be an Independence baby. The doctors said I would have all kinds of problem from being slow to not being able to see, which is the only thing I got out of what the doctors said and even my sight isn’t so bad. I am thankful to be alive. I have blue eyes and glasses because well, I am blind, I can’t see things that are far away. If it is up close, and I mean UP CLOSE, then I can see it. I originally had dark brown hair, but now it is black. Why? Because I wanted to try something new and not so out there. Once upon a time it was pinkish red. Yeah, I know. I am about say “5,9”. My parents were quite tall. My dad, Jerricho Lee Bone, was about 6 foot and my mom, Carol Ann Bone, was about “5,11”. They have now been divorced for over 3 years. I am two sisters, Katrina Ann Bone, and MaRanda Leigh Bone. Katrina is 17 and a senior while MaRanda is 15 and a sophomore at Alma Bryant High. I have a step-dad, Shane Patton, and two step-brothers, Tristen and Christopher Patton who are in the 8th grade at Grand Bay Middle school. They are twins, not identical. I have a step-sister, Victoria Patton, and she is about 21 and has a baby boy named Brantley. We have two dogs, Oreo and Rex, and two cats, Ninja and Shiva. I live currently in Grand Bay Alabama. I have moved around a bunch during my years growing up, so I never know if I will be in one spot for a while or not. I have moved every year almost. Each grade I was at another school. During Middle school, 6-8 grade, I happened to stay in one spot for those three years and even my 9th grade year, but then moved to Mississippi, for my 10th grade year, and then back to Alabama to finish school and graduate. I am class of 2010. In college it says I will be class of 2016. I am attending South Alabama because it was the closest to home and they had what I wanted to major in. I did not want to go to another state or have to drive very far to go to college. I am fine right here. I want to major in Elementary Education. My reasons: Because I love children and I love to teach. People say I am brave and crazy for WANTING to teach children. I am not crazy or brave; I just want to do something I love. I enjoy being around children and teaching them how to count or color or telling them about what the earth is made of and see them react in such awe. It is what I want to do, and succeed in. Knowing I have inspired a child makes me feel great about myself. I will be minoring in Ceramics. I like art and I find this art to be truly interesting and unique. It makes me feel really joyful inside. I may want to become an art teacher for the Elementary school. Art and teaching children would be great. What I do best is being a good person, a nice person. Everyone tells me I am such a nice person, that I respect others in such ways, that I have great morals. I never really thought about it or even noticed it. I was just being me and doing what is right rather than wrong. So what I am best at is being myself. What I do like to do more than anything is cook. ^_^ I just love to cook. I try to cook whenever I can if I have the right ingredients, and mom lets me. Cooking relaxes me, along with playing video games. They are relaxing as well. I like to read also. I read four books over the summer. It was a series. Vampire Academy if anyone has heard of it. I need to read the last one. I am excited to see what happens next. I also read another series called The House of Night Novels. I am waiting for the next book to come out. As you can see when I get to talking, well typing or writing, I do a lot of it. I am not a very talkative person, but I can type or write you a book. I just let what comes to mind go down on paper. If it is just too much and you can’t handle it, well, I am sorry but that is me. Take me as I am, never try and change me, I will be me, whether you approve or not. What else is there to say? I know I have not told you everything about me. There is more to me. I want to Travel. Yes, I know, I want to be a teacher, but also travel. I think I can do it though. I can still travel the world. I want to visit all kinds of places, Italy, Germany, Egypt, France, Russia, anywhere. I have only been back and forth to different southern places in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. I have been to Florida once, and that was with my dad to Panama City for a Modeling thingy. I want to go out of state, out of country though. It will be exciting. I have a boyfriend, Andy Callister, not which that is important to any of you, but it is to me. I have been dating him for 2 years now. He is a great person, respectable, caring, humorous, and loud. He is going in the Army. He leaves for Basic February 7th. So everyone, I know you do not know him, but wish him luck, he will one day be fighting for this country. I have two very best friends, Daryl Tate and Lauren Real. They are like my siblings to me. I would do anything for them. They are the greatest friends I could ever have. I work at the Library at South. It isn’t the greatest job but it is something rather than nothing. I like working there for the most part. The people I work with are all very nice people. So, if you ever need help with anything at the library you can try and find me and I can try and help you with what you need. It is not a problem. I love to help out.  Well, I have written quite a bit for now. I could go on, and on for a while, but best to save some writing for later. Hope this hasn’t been a bore to anyone. It is not the most wonderful thing to read, but hey you found out something new about a person you are in class with. So Smile, because everyone should and never give up no matter what life throws your way.

TIME MANAGEMENT

I leanred that I do not need to waste my time. Manage it. I need to ask myself why am I doing this and what will happen if I do not do it? It is much better to do the right things than to do things right. I learned that experience takes time, you will not just have it in one setting and it cannot be faked. I need to have a plan. If I fail to plan, then I plan to fail. I can change my plan once I have one. I have to obtain one first. And lastly do the ugliest thing first. I do not know anything else about Dr. Pausch. He is a great motivational speaker.
